Alhamdulillah, it was a great blessing to attend Ramadan this year and enjoy its virtues, don’t you think? We thank Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala for enabling us to complete the days of Ramadan this year, and we ask Him to enable us to live until the next Ramadan and more Ramadans to come so we can worship Him the way it pleases Him subhanahu wa ta’ala.

Many brothers and sisters after Eid Salat and Eid day came to me and thanked me for making their Ramadan experience this year so unique, and I was thanking them back for making mine unique as well. I have to confess that Ramadan this year at our Prayer Center in Orland Park was one of the best Ramadans I have ever attended for so many years. I enjoyed the Salat and the Qiyam, I enjoyed the congregation and the location and I enjoyed being part of this spiritual experience through lecturing as well as through learning.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped make Ramadan this year a special occasion and especially Sh. Jamal for the beautiful recitation and du’a, the volunteers who made the in and out process go so smooth and cared for our safety and comfort, the child care team for giving us the peace we wanted during our Salat, the brothers and sisters who had to be in the Masjid before anybody else arrived to make sure everything was ready for us to enjoy our Salat and our worship.

Now that Ramadan this year has come to an end, and as we celebrated the Eid, which was like a graduation ceremony from the school of Ramadan, our hearts are focusing on what is next and what we can do to keep the spirit of Ramadan alive even long after it has ended. Well, here’s our plan on how to get that started.

Beginning in this month of October 2009, we will insha’Allah resume our pre-Ramadan program with Sh. Jamal, and we shall start our new English programs during the weekdays and some of the weekends. Our programs will be knowledge and Ilm based series of lectures and spiritual activities to ensure that we build confidence and spiritual drive in the heart and the mind of the Muslims, youth and adults.

Starting the first week of October, Tuesday 6th, we will insha’Allah begin our lecture series in English on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after Isha Salat. Open to all, adults and youth, men and women, and to further commence our journey on the path of seeking knowledge, Tuesday after Isha we will start studying our first book “The Etiquette of Seeking Knowledge” by sh. Bakr Abu Zayd rahimahullah. We are the Ummah of “Iqra” which signifies knowledge, and we believe that knowledge is sacred and therefore the carriers of knowledge should be responsible and observe special etiquettes and manners. This will be a heart softener and motivational series of lectures, so make sure you are there. Go online and get yourself a copy of the book and bring it with you to class. Trust me you don’t want to miss any part of this program.

Wednesdays, after Isha, will be dedicated to the study of the life of our beloved Messenger of Allah salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, from the famous Seerah book “The Sealed Nectar” by sh. Safiyyr Rahman Mubarakfoori. So prepare to immerse yourself for a profound discussion and vivid description of the life of the man who was sent as mercy for all the worlds, and as a guidance for mankind. Come and see for yourself the truth about his life salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam, and learn more on how to defend him against all acts of defamation.

There are more classes coming up discussing specific topics as well as general lectures to serve all the different age groups in our community. Exclusively for the youth, boys and girls, there will be more to come insha’Allah and for women we shall have special presentations and lecture series to suit their needs and meet their request for special topics. All shall be announced soon insha’Allah after we do the final organization of the program.

Furthermore, the larger Orland Park community will receive its share and get to experience the Muslim community first hand, insha’Allah, as we extend our hands to schools, colleges, religious communities, non-profit organizations and more through our upcoming outreach programs. If you are one of those individuals who love to give da’wah and desire to communicate with non-Muslims and if you have access to any of these organizations or groups and wish to help with it, then let me know about it so I can count you in. Meanwhile, get ready because the start is coming soon insha’Allah.

We ask Allah to help us achieve the best for his deen al-Islam and to help us build our community to become righteous and act in light of his divine guidance found in the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alayhi wa sallam.

And Alhamdulillahi Rabil Aalamin, all praise is due to Allah the Lord of all the worlds.
